Indications/Uses
Reduce high blood sugar level in adults, adolescents & childn ≥6 yr w/ DM.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Administration
Should be taken with food: Administer w/in 15 min or immediately after a meal.
Contraindications
Special Precautions
Patients who may be ill or have a major injury that may increase blood sugar level; not eating enough that may cause blood sugar to decrease. May develop heart failure in patients w/ long-standing type 2 DM & heart disease or previous stroke who were treated in combination w/ pioglitazone. Monitor blood sugar level frequently. Contains metacresol which may cause allergic reactions. For SC use only. Consult doctor if patient needs to inj the insulin by another method. Alcohol consumption. May impair ability to drive or operate machinery. Renal or hepatic impairment. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn <6 yr.
Adverse Reactions
Hypoglycemia; hyperglycemia; systemic allergic reactions; skin & allergic reactions at the inj site (eg, reddening, unusually intense pain, itching, hives, swelling or inflammation); lipodystrophy.
Drug Interactions
Medicines that may cause hypoglycemia including other antidiabetics, ACE inhibitors, disopyramide, fluoxetine, fibrates, MAOIs, pentoxifylline, propoxyphene, salicylates eg, aspirin, sulfonamide antibiotics. Medicines that may cause hyperglycemia including corticosteroids, danazol, diazoxide, diuretics, glucagon, INH, estrogens, progestogens, phenothiazine derivatives, somatropin; sympathomimetics (eg, epinephrine, salbutamol, terbutaline); thyroid hormones, PIs, atypical antipsychotics (eg, olanzapine & clozapine). Blood sugar level may either rise or fall w/ β-blockers, clonidine, guanethidine, reserpine, lithium salts & alcohol. May cause hypoglycaemia w/ pentamidine which may sometimes be followed by hyperglycemia.
