Medicines that may cause hypoglycemia including other antidiabetics, ACE inhibitors, disopyramide, fluoxetine, fibrates, MAOIs, pentoxifylline, propoxyphene, salicylates eg, aspirin, sulfonamide antibiotics. Medicines that may cause hyperglycemia including corticosteroids, danazol, diazoxide, diuretics, glucagon, INH, estrogens, progestogens, phenothiazine derivatives, somatropin; sympathomimetics (eg, epinephrine, salbutamol, terbutaline); thyroid hormones, PIs, atypical antipsychotics (eg, olanzapine & clozapine). Blood sugar level may either rise or fall w/ β-blockers, clonidine, guanethidine, reserpine, lithium salts & alcohol. May cause hypoglycaemia w/ pentamidine which may sometimes be followed by hyperglycemia.
